Digital Literacy Skills

Our Digital Literacy Skills course is returning in 2017. Based on the Nationally Accredited Digital Literacy Skills Program, this 12 week course will take you through the basics of getting started with a Windows based PC or laptop. Including basic computer skills, internet, email, working with cloud storage & modern office software packages such as Google Docs, Sheets & Slides. This course is divided into three sections

Basic Computer Skills

  • Turning on & off the computer
  • Using USB devices
  • Using a printer
  • Using the icons
  • Setting up the workstation
  • Virus scanning
  • Basic problem solving

Basic Internet & Email Skills

  • Getting on line – what do you need?
  • Searching for information
  • Netiquette
  • Staying safe online
  • Social media
  • Sending / Replying to emails
  • Dealing with attachments

Basic Cloud & Google Apps Skills

  • What is the Cloud?
  • Google Sheets (Spreadsheets)
    • Working with formulas
  • Google Docs (Word Documents)
    • Creating & editing documents
  • Google Slides (Presentations)
    • Creating a slide show
    • Animations
    • Creating handouts
  • Sharing files & folder security

When & Where?

This course will be held twice a week with two groups operating. Choose from either a Monday or a Friday, both classes are from 10am to 12noon. Bring your laptop, or let Kathy & the girls at the Horsham Community House know if you will need to borrow one. Emails & Facebook accounts are available for you to use during class time. Tea & coffee is included. Please let us know if you have any special requirements.
